The most accomplished enamelists seem to be either Austrian or French, and this Vienna masterpiece shows off the genre beautifully. A souvenir box from the early 20th century, it shows a French Romantic era scene and the kiln-fired enamel scene is immaculate. Guilloche, or machined patterned sterling silver box was surely a souvenir or perhaps a gift, and the deeply engraved name on back tells us to whom it first belonged, though no further information attends it. A gorgeous box, there seems to be a haze of gilt remaining, leading me to believe it was once a vermeil finish or 18K gold overwash.
Very good to excellent condition, no dents or dings, and no flaws or damage at all to that gorgeous enamel.
