Oscar & Edgar Gutherz, Royal Austria, makers of this set of stunningly appealing fish service plates, has produced herein an heirloom set you'll enjoy using and displaying for generations to come. This earliest 20th century (possibly late 19th century) set is complete in 12 plates, all with hand painted fish of a variety of breeds depicted colorfully on the set. The border, in a garland of flowers surrounding the central painted cartouche of aquatic scene make these all the more unique and lovely. While they would surely have originally come with a large elongated service tray and also a sauce boat, typical of these Victorian - Edwardian mainstay sets, the set now consists of only the 12 plates. Still, rare to find even that much of a set in this fine a condition.
Very good to excellent. The plates have no chips or cracks, and, while there does appear the very rare line of a utensil scrape on a painting or two, as you can see from our images, they're very few and very far between. A beautiful set for decorating, by the way. Elegant and also each a single work of art. FABU!
