Circa 1830-50, stunning old wood casket, box, coffret with exquisite inlay cartouche that includes figures of caryatids. And when you open this one up, using the original working key in the working lock, you find it is chock-full of the old original jars, bottles, brushes, sewing and vanity implements from silk spools of mother of pearl, to a steel clamp, to sterling silver sewing items and even extras (2 fine sterling silver mechanical pencils, for instance). The scissors shown are not original but they are of the correct age. You'll note there is an extra stiletto, and several other extras still in the chest, just as we found it only much much cleaner. The lift out tools tray exposes a set of boxes, brushes, other items. And all 4 jars remain in very nice condition. The set has use showing and as noted, misses the original scissors, but is surprisingly loaded for one of these very old ones.
Very good condition for age and type. As noted above. The outer box is 10.75" x 7.75" and it is 4.25" tall when closed. Working key with the box. Lids to jars are silver plate rather than sterling. The handles on sewing and writing items are sterling silver, however. Glassware includes inkwell, drinking cup with a nesting container, 2 scent bottles 1 larger and 1 smaller jar (one nested inside the drinking cup). No chips or cracks. Very good used condition, nearly 200 years old by now.
