Isn't this a beauty! Just in with packages from my recent buying trip, this mid-sized French decanter is in the charming tradition of table service for one or two, either wine or water. Yes, they do set a small decanter at each place setting so you can refill your own water or wine glass. And they come in such a rich variety of forms - some by Daum Nancy will be listing tonight, too, and we have these fabulous old sets by St. Louis and Baccarat as well as George Sand (informal colored glass) and Legras to name a few. I'm not sure who is the maker on this one. It would almost seem to have Bohemian influence, but I'm quite certain it is French and not Moser or Bohemian. A petit mystery! Unsigned, but definitely a rich elegant one to use at your table for one or two. Collect several, they needn't match. You'll love the tradition they represent, age old but still practiced at the French table.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. Original painted stopper remains with the undamaged decanter, which is delightfully hand painted in rich thick impasto enamels. Cobalt glass that is thick and heavy. Just the right size for a couple of nice sized glasses of wine, so sharing with 2 people is possible for this one. Romantic table settings - collect a bunch of these and delight your guests!
