A fabulous and slightly smaller than usual Georgian era (1700s) drafting tools or calipers for measuring maps or ?? A wonderful set with great age, and of interest to architects, engineers, designers, and anyone who loves fine old treasures. The case, itself, is in marvelous condition, heavy larger scale shagreen (shark or stingray leather) that is sturdy and remains unscathed by time. Interior is still lined in the original paper and silks, and has the several sections into which rulers and implements related to the engineering trades and perhaps navigational trades once rested in elegant fashion. The interior retains only 2 implements, each of which are original to the etui. (view our images to make your own evaluation). They do not appear to be perfect but then they are probably 250 years old, give or take. The case has no unfilled openings and is complete as we show it.. The size and shape of this one is unique, and I have never owned one that is in this form, nor which has calipers inside. A great addition to your collection, whether you're an architect, designer, collector.
Very good condition for the etui, itself, and moderate condition on the very early calipers drafting angle included within. I don't really know how these work, so our photos show you condition and hopefully you'll know how they go together. Openings into which you might place other period implements such as rulers, etc., though, to finish out this fabulous display piece to your liking. Don't miss it.
