A popular theme for the Animalier movement, and carried out well (if troubling) in this hand carved wood desk stand and inkwell set, the wounded fox is held fast in a 'bear' trap, and snarls at his potential captor. The piece is entirely carved of wood, as noted, and dates mid-1800s, yet comes to us in remarkably fine condition, with the original glass inkwell insets and their original matching carved wood caps with acorn tops. Nice and large, it's such an incredible find, perfect for your cabin, lodge, or office. It's the time of year when our Black Forest items are selling fast. Don't miss this one.
Very good to excellent condition, a superb carving throughout and without any real damage to report apart from a little rub to the nose of our snarling trapped fox. Very tiny imperfections, but let me note them: One ink well wood top is missing a very small wood piece and has a very small hole in it. One foot on base has been reattached at some point. There is also a repair to the base with new wood round piece added in an attempt to repair splitting of wood base (look at our images). It is so rare to find these sets complete with the original inkwells and their carved caps. A generous pen tray out front makes this one functional as well as a work of art. While something of this calibre should be signed by its artist, I find no signature on this one. Pity.
