Very fine & rare 19th century Napoleon III era 14" desk top writer's box, double inkwell or inkstand in hand carved ebony and in a very unique Anglo-Indian style! A very interesting piece, likely French and definitely Napoleon III in style though it could be of Anglo-Indian origins made for the European market. The entire piece is jet black, what appears to be solid ebony wood and beautifully carved with filigree style decoration around the individual pieces, pen trays, etc. Made like a partner's inkstand, there are pen trays on each side though just one side has the large stationery drawer. Four movable/removable ebony candle holders, two larger ebony fixtures that would have to be the covered inkwells and just a striking, nicely sized antique decorative piece! Perfect as a desk or writing table top accent, sure to please.....and you can't beat this crazy price :).
Good-very good condition. Two dividers are missing from the back side of the top and there looks like something would have been in the large center space. One of the raised ebony panels that frames the inkwells (left side) is missing. The drawer opens fine, original lock, etc. but no key. See pictures for measurements.
