Absolutely gorgeous antique 1906 hallmarked English brilliant cut crystal & sterling silver 4” square single inkwell with facet or ‘hobnail’ design wheel cut base that shimmers like diamonds, cut pen tray or holder grooves in the top and elegant sterling silver cap! Isn’t this one beautiful! It's been quite some time since we had the pleasure to offer one of these great old sterling & cut crystal inkwells but this is actually one of two that we’re adding today. Nearly identical though the sterling top on this one has no monogram or inscription. Often referred to as paper weight inkwells, these heavy treasures are fabulous decorative accents and getting harder and harder to find at a reasonable price. This one especially fine with the expansive crystal body, pen or quill holder grooves cut into the top and simply a stunner visually. The sterling collar bears English hallmarks for the silversmith Walker & Hall of Sheffield (Reg. 1894) and the date mark is for 1906. From the "brilliant cut crystal" era a true pleasure for us to offer. A treasure, don't miss it AND, be sure to browse our other beautiful inkwells & desk top items while you're with us. Thanks!
Very good condition. There are small chips at the top corners and some scuffing to the bottom but no larger chips or cracks to note. There are some dark spots visible on the inside of the sterling cap, likely just tarnish or possibly a bit of corrosion from the ink over the years. See pictures for all measurements.
