Fabulous antique Victorian to Edwardian era hand carved 20 3/8" x 12 5/8" plaque, furniture or cabinet panel perfect for wall hanging with lovely figural or sculptural bust, seashell shaped finial and ornate scrolling tendrils! We love the old carved pieces! Salvaged from wall panels set into old chateau and palaces, elegant rooms or cabinetry, these panels come to us usually in superb condition which you see in this one. They're always interesting and certainly can be worked into your own custom cabinetry, or hung as wall art in your home or office - all to great result and accolades from your guests. Decorating is always a decision of the details, ins't it. And this type of item really makes your home your own! It's large and heavy solid walnut (I believe) and could be framed and hung, or worked back into wall paneling or cabinetry, as noted. Had that Italian 'grotesques' feel to it, perhaps from an old villa near Florence?
Very good to excellent condition throughout. Solid wood, thick and large and without damage to the elegant carving. Photos show it well. The female figural bust brings the total depth to roughly 3", the remainder of the decoration also in deep bas relief though and very attractive. Superb patina and soft walnut glow to the wood. No wood worm. There is an extremely subtle bend to the back wooden panel but not so much as to be noticed if you were to hang it on the wall and surely wouldn't represent any problem if mounted in custom furniture. See pictures for all measurements.
