Elegant antique Austrian sterling silver 12pc dessert knife & fork set, a 2pc setting for six with fleur-de-lys or seashell shaped handle accents, original steel blades & tines and in the original fabulous box with ornate leather appliqués and hand painted enamel figural scene! I can't tell which I like better, the flatware or the box :). We're more knowledgable in French sterling silver but dabble in just about all of the best and this set, while not overly frilly, fits right in to our offerings. The set is complete, all handles bear pre-1867 Austro-Hungarian hallmarks (the shape and layout of the markings narrow down their age to before 1867). The silversmith marks on the handles and as spelled out on the steel blades are for A. Becher though I've not been able to find too much information. A wonderful dessert set for a small gathering and what a pleasure to get out that lovely box! Just like fine chocolates, this set is packaged with care and style not common today. Presentation, it is important!
Very good condition. No damage to the flatware, just some faint age tarnish or corrosion spots to the pre-stainless steel blades and/or tines. The box is fully intact, just missing the right side clasp on the front and the leatherette hinge on the back is split and has been repaired with a strip of brown leather down the spine. See pictures for individual weights and measurements.
