A fabulous presentation to this write's set! This elegant J.C. VICKERY (1818 . 183 Regent St. W, LONDON, marked sterling silver desk set would have been a thrill to receive when it was first made back in 1900. The date mark tells us that was the production year for this set, and that it was created by J.C. Vickery while in London.
John Collard (J.C.) Vickery started the firm in 1890 at 183 Regent Street, and ran it as sole owner from 1893. A top firm, he had commissions from a long list of Royals including the Kings and Queens in UK, TRH the Prince and Princess of Wales, Kings and Queens of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, and onward. The height of importance for this firm is the period before WWI, and this set is from that famed and lauded period for this famed and lauded firm. A spectacular name. The firm, upon death of J.C. Vickery at age 75, in 1930, was transferred to James Walker, Ltd.
Very good to excellent condition for ate and type. There are slight dings on the wax seal, visible in our photos. The other pieces remain beautiful and ready to use with addition only of the pen nib. Each piece bears the hallmarks and also the company name. Exceptionally fine cachet in the name on this set. The outer case is leather or leatherette covered and remains nice. There is some spittle at the hinge on that cream silk lining but the green silk velvet into which the implements rest is lovely still. An heirloom!
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time.
