Elegant antique French Napoleon III era 15pc tea service set, richly gilded likely 18k gold on sterling silver or 'vermeil' consisting of twelve teaspoons, sugar tongs, tea scoop & strainer with Russian style rounded & machined handles and all beautifully kept in the original uniquely shaped & fitted red leatherette storage and/or presentation box! One of a few beautiful old boxed vermeil tea sets that we'll be adding in the coming weeks, this one with the hard to find matching tea scoop and teapot strainer AND that fabulous box! This set in a rich gilded finish, actually 18k gold plated silver (we've not tested this set but the French silversmiths nearly always used 18k gold for their vermeil pieces). The post 1878 French Minerve or Minerva head hallmark on all pieces, the tiny number "1" in the upper right corner means they're all in .950 silver under the gold (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The silversmith marks are for Francois Nicoud, Paris circa 1875-1880 (note the gold embossed stamp on the inside lid of the box, too). A magnificent set, great box and guaranteed to please!
Very good-excellent condition! No damage to note other than possibly very slight wear or fading to the vermeil finish though I didn't see anything worth pointing out when photographing the set. All original, matching & complete. The box even has a working lock with old skeleton key. See pictures for all individual weights and measurements.
