An exceptional fragment of what would have been a massive 17th century woven wool tapestry from some chateau or palace, this one is figural, well composed for a fragment, and has been beautifully preserved, restored, framed in with period woven border panels and backed in linen. Ready to hang in your home (or mine). The Medieval Princess or perhaps Queen depicted (see her ermine trimmed sleeves) is beautifully posed near the greenery that gives it's name to these very old panels - "Verdure", and the greens and blues are typical of the yarn dying in that era. The panel would have been salvaged from a much larger panel, used to decorate the thick stone wall interiors of those cold old buildings, form and function - to keep out the drafts and decorate the room as well. We've laid a ruler beside the woven yarns so you can get a send of the gauge and fine work of the panel. These are SO rare to fine in usable condition, but this one will please the heart and aesthetic mind for centuries to come. Will let you view the images for more detail. I bought this panel in Paris very recently while buying antiques - have a larger and finer one with 7 knights and 6 horses that has somehow disappeared. Will list once located (hopefully soon). The quality is exceptional, the palette is superb.
Very good to excellent for age and type. This wonderful subject and panel has been restored beautifully in Paris by professionals, and backed with linen as you can see. The border is woven tapestry and one can display as a wall hanging, mount it in a frame should you choose, or make it up into a lux pillow - up to you. The panel has no odors of age so also has been well cleaned. Stunning old work from 3-4 centuries back, no holes nor tears, and wherever there was a slip in the old weave, it has been professionally repaired. Superb for these rare old panels! Will be carefully rolled for shipment.
