Antique French Sterling Silver Crystal Absinthe or Bedside Service, 2 Decanters, Sugar Bowl, Tumbler, Tray
Absinthe set, crystal and fine .950/1000 pure French sterling silver Silversmith is GUYOT, Auguste 1903/1913 Beautifully engraved crystal, tray is glass (we think). Maker unknown but presumed Baccarat
These old sets are so rare to find, complete. This is a Belle Epoch absinthe service set - larger decanter for water, small for absinthe, sugar bowl for sugar cubes and the tumbler for the drink. Tray holds them all and all you'd need is your absinthe spoon. Superb original set - many also use these for bedside service, or "bonne nuit" (good night) water and liqueur for guest room, master suite, but it's the typical absinthe service. The pieces you see are all in fine condition, both silver and the crystal. Likely Baccarat, we don't have a signature to present, however. Rare to find. They never last long when we do locate a silver set like this. Don't miss it.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. I see not a single chip nor nip on even the stoppers in this old set. No damage to the crystal in the long necks covered by that beautiful French sterling silver. You have no chips nor cracks on the tray, either, though there are some surface rubs to the bottom side from use. This is over 100 years old. The French Minerve mark is the guarantee of .950/1000 pure silver, finest sterling standard in the world. The French silver is also a thicker gauge and isn't so easily dented, and we have no dents to report on any of the silver, either. A nice cross-over ribbon pattern that goes with everything. The crystal is clear, no haze nor lime deposit on insides. Thoroughly cleaned, I see a tiny bit of moisture collected within the small decanter, so we'll remove stopper and q-tip it out. Tiny detail, but we do such things. ; )
The set could only be improved with addition of a 2nd tumbler, but many of these sets were sold with just one, as you see here. Fabulous item. Measurements of all pieces are noted on the photos.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
