Silversmith: Jean-Nicholas BOULANGER, Paris circa 1789 - ? marks: Coq punch mark (rooster or cock) dating 1798-1909 French Empire, Napoleon Era Pair - RARE.
The pair of double open salt servers you see here are Napoleon era fine sterling, .950/1000 pure - the top standard in the world, and are stunning with the Empire sphinx caryatid figural legs and the web and palmettes, acanthus - all motifs of the French Empire. An exceptional pair and an exceptional Silversmith, as well.
Very good to excellent condition without any flaws or restorations to either of the fine old silver stands. We are uncertain if the crystal cups are original or were made later to replace originals. There is no way for us to tell. They are half-rounds and are deeply wheel engraved on bottoms as you can see - very fine, one insert has a crack running about 1/2" down into the body from the rim. A stunning pair (2 on offer) for your collection and use. We've shown all the marks. Measurements are noted on our photos.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
