That wonderful old "Sevres" or "Celeste" blue - French blue, it's my favorite color in the old opaline boxes, eggs, trinkets. And this one is fine form, circa 1830-70, (the very oldest ones were smaller) and has not only got a working lock, but still has the original working key. A constellation of hand applied gold enamel work on this one, some slight rub to those mainly on the box's top as you can see, but still just beautiful. The oblong or canted corner oval shape is also spectacular. Raised on a brass framework with ball feet, it's also of elevated appeal throughout - this one is sure to please.
Very good to excellent. I find no chips, no cracks, no hairlines or damage to report beyond a little light losses to the applied gold decoration (visible in our images). The addition of the original working key is a rare plus (it's on an old gilt wire; would be so pretty with a complimenting tassel). Lock works, Measurements as noted on our images: 5" tall, 5.25" wide and 3.5" front to back. Gorgeous old thing!
