Fabulous antique W.T. Copeland 5pc 9 5/8" decorative cabinet plate & footed serving dish set, all with gorgeous pale yellow & gold enamel accented borders AND each with a unique hand painted & ID'd Grand Tour style scene including the Castle of Granson (Grandson Castle, Switzerland), Passau (Bavaria), and Luggella Lake (Ireland)! Simply superb decorative pieces, especially fun if you've had the good fortune to visit the memorialized locales! Ornate borders in yellow & gold with raised scrolling acanthus accenting the borders and pierced or reticulated accents! There are actually six pieces in this set, five plates and the footed serving dish but one of the plates (depicting Mont Blanc or "Monte Blance") has a hairline crack so we're not including it in the number or valuation (though it will be included with the set). This particular mark is for the W.T. Copeland (North Staffordshire) and dates between 1851-1885, there is a circular impressed mark but I'm not sure if that denotes the exact year of manufacture and I can't quite make it out anyway. A beautiful set, don't miss them!
A collector shared this info with us about these: "your plates date from ca 1848 and were painted by an artist named Ball. Not much is known about him but he was active at Copelands from about 1845-1851. The plates are Dresden shape/form". Thanks!
Very good to excellent condition. As noted, there are actually five plates, one of which has a crack. One foot on the oval serving dish has an old stable repair. Possibly a slight surface scratch to a plate, painting area or two. No other chips, cracks or damage to note. See pictures for all measurements.
