It's been a while since we added some fine old Victorian papier mache items to our shop, but we recently found 3 items in one location and of course I bought them all. The very fine stationery or writer's desk box you see here was one of those items. Isn't it wonderful! One missing inlay of mother of pearl, there at the center of the formerly hand painted bouquet up top, but otherwise very very good condition for age and type. A scalloped rim and domed rectangular lid form remain without chips. The lock appears to be a working lock, but we do not have a key to fit it at listing time. Priced without a key. If we match a spare to it, we'll annotate the listing. No warp, just a lovely old c.1840-50 desk top box for your stationery, business cards, etc..

Very very good condition for age and type. There is one piece of mother of pearl inlay that is missing there in the center top ornamentation and the pieces you see would have originally been painted, too, to look like a bouquet of flowers and that paint (as usual) is worn off over the years. There are no breaks in the box, neither at the rim nor at the hinges where these are often vulnerable. Surface crazing is normal on these and you'll find a little bit of it on this one, but notably free of damage, truly. It's got a nicely sectioned interior for a variety of note cards. Might have had slender inkwell that would have fit into the outer front 2 narrow spaces initially, though I haven't seen one with that narrow a spot for inkwells before so not sure. Measurements noted on photos, but it is 7.75" wide, 5" at highest part of the angled lid, and 4.75" deep front to back.

Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
