This is a fabulous hanging pipe holder or rack, hand carved in heavy old French oak, accented with a Brittany-styled lathe-turned spoke central cartouche, and acanthus-like outer form. The rack isn't limited to pipes, though that was the original intentional use. These are great hung in a Country French kitchen and holding your selection of old wooden spoons, or your other kitchen tools. Or a set of beautiful old French silver spoons on display. You'll find the best way to put it to use. Dates late 1800s to perhaps as late as 1910.
Very good to excellent condition throughout. I find no chips, no cracks, no warping and no damage at all. The pipe shelf is firmly adhered to the carved back panel, and hanging hardware is all set (a large old eye bolt in place, which I'd probably opt to replace with hanging hook that will allow the rack to mount flush to the wall - easily done, but we'll leave the old one for you to decide). The rack is 18" long, 10.5" top to bottom and extends 3.5" from the wall at deepest. Holes for 6 pipes, and those holes are just about 1" in diameter.
