It's been quite some time since we had the pleasure to offer one of these great old Gorham inkwells, thick and heavy crystal with a faceted wheel cut base that shimmers like diamonds, bubble style ink reservoir and sterling silver cap & collar. Often referred to as paper weight inkwells, these heavy treasures are fabulous decorative accents and getting harder and harder to find at a reasonable price. The rim bears the Gorham hallmark and "Sterling", no date mark that I can see but this style of the Gorham mark dated to the late 19th century. Just over 100 years old though you wouldn't guess it from the condition. A treasure, don't miss it!
Excellent condition. One small (roughly 1/8-1/4") chip to one base corner. The lid bears an interlaced monogram that looks to be "EMW". See pictures for all measurements.
