Antique Victorian Era Carved Wood 29" Wall Barometer, Winged GriffinFigures
Fine antique Victorian era Black Forest style French 29" wall barometer & thermometer piece with ornate hand carved wood case including two marvelous winged griffin or gryphon figures and foliate scrolls! One of a few great old barometers that we're adding today. Yes, it's time to be directing our attention to the colder months....and decorating that mountain getaway or ski cabin :). This one featuring two impressively sized winged griffin or gryphon figures, complete with detailed paw feet and framing the barometer. The top with columns framing the original thermometer (mounted on an enamel on copper plaque). The barometer face markings are in French so it's likely a French made. A marvelous decorative piece, don't miss it!
Good condition. A few things to note. First, the columns on either side of the thermometer have a slightly lighter finish and I'm not sure if they're original or custom replacements? There is also a bit of discoloration to the barometer's card dial. Finally, if you look closely at the griffin figures, you'll notice that the body portion below the wings is just flat. There would have been another small wood layer affixed there that would have added the detail to that portion of each body. An impressive piece nonetheless, both in size and visually. See pictures for measurements.
