Elegant antique French 18k gold on sterling silver "vermeil" confiturier or sugar bowl, dish with original reticulated sifting serving spoon and original fitted box! Scrumptious! Both the rim of the bowl and spoon handle with foliate accented pattern and the side handles of the bowl in reticulated silver, also with floral & foliate accenting. Yes, the sifting spoon tells us this was definitely meant as a powdered sugar service, to be sprinkled lightly over fruit, pastries or whatever but wouldn't it also make an exquisite serving piece for caviar! Just add a smaller glass dish floating in chipped ice and a smaller scoop. Exceptional!

The bowl rim, handles and spoon all bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmarks, the bowl bears the tiny number "1" within for .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The spoon is marked with a "2" so we know it's in at least .800 silver under that rich gold. The silversmith marks are for Eugene Lefebvre, Paris circa 1896-1910 according to our reference sources. An elegant ensemble, entirely complete and as fine as they come, don't miss it!

Very good condition. Possibly the very slightest bit of wear to the vermeil bowl interior and there are a few tiny dark spots to the inside base but there is no notable damage or dents that I can see. Some darkened spots on the outer lower curve of the bowl. The box, as you can see, is also near pristine, amazing. This one must have been tucked way in a safe over the last 100 or so years. The embossed label inside the box lid reads "Bourdet & Merey, Bijoutiers-Orfevres, 10 Place de l'Hotel-de-Ville, St. Etienne". See pictures for all measurements.
