Absolutely stunning & very rare antique 19th century French Napoleon III era Palais Royal style desk, formal dining table or fireplace mantel top decorative jardiniere or plant box PAIR with richly burled exterior veneers and opulent gilt dore bronze ormolu & carved mother of pearl appliqué decoration! We've had only a few other pieces in this highly decorated style, all boxes though and a bit larger, some with turquoise opaline 'jewels' to boot but this PAIR will hold its own among your best! About the size of a Georgian era single well tea caddy, these have richly burled walnut veneers with solid mother of pearl cabochons, carved accents and even strips along the top rims. Both pieces have turned bronze corner finials and feet, small but wonderfully sized as desk or writing table top decorative pieces or even as formal dining table accents. Just add a small pot/liner and plant for some added color and undeniable French elegance. No maker or retailer's markings on this pair but I wouldn't be surprised to find this one a work of one of the more prominent French manufacturers. We're also adding a single, similarly decorated plant box this week so be sure to browse some while you're with us. Thanks!
Very good condition. A few flaws to note, the most obvious is that they are both missing an interior tin liner. A few small veneer chips or imperfections and there are four small mother of pearl accents missing from one side of one piece. They can hold a small plant pot with a 3 3/4" diameter. See pictures for all measurements.
