Absolutely gorgeous & rare antique French Louis XVIII to Louis-Philippe era 6pc teaspoon set, rich vermeil or 18k gold on hallmarked French silver in wonderful condition with figural pattern including winged angel, cherub or putti figures & floral garland and in the original leather storage case, box or travel etui! These older sets are very rare, hard to find with the original case as you see here, even more so with such an alluring figural pattern! A complete six piece set in the original gilt embossed leather case! All six pieces bear the French 'Socrate' or Socrates hallmarks, the tiny number "2" within those marks designates them as being in at least .800 silver content (80% pure so just under the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The lowered silver content is quite common in these smaller pieces, giving them added strength as they would likely bend to easily if in .950 silver. An 18k gold plating over the silver gives them even that much more visual appeal! The silversmith marks are legible, an “S” under a balance scale but I’ve not been able to find reference to the maker as of yet. A lovely and rare older set, in fabulous condition given their nearly 200 years, don't miss them!
Very good condition. As you can see in the images, there are no dents damage or repairs to note and hardly a sign of wear to the vermeil! The oval medallions on the handles may be covering an original monogram though it’s hard to tell if that’s the case or if they’re original and just never monogrammed. The box is also in great shape, no notable damage to the red leather exterior and both clasps are intact. See pictures for weights and measurements.
