Any room improves with addition of a fine antique portrait, does it not? This is an exquisite c.1860-80s portrait of a beautiful young woman, large and superb in condition in a frame that might not be her original but is lovely. I purchased this one and one of a gentleman as a pair, but we're offering them separately. I am sure they are a marriage portrait pair, and this c.1860-80 bride is just stunning. Soulful eyes, a lovely architecture to her pose and the added interest and treasure of her jewelry, pearl-accented hair, lace cuff just finish her so perfectly. With a painting of this quality and scale, too, I fully expected her to have a signature of her artist, but I do not see it. I ti s possible it might appear under the edging of the frame, but I have not taken her out of frame to check. Still firmly stretched on the old wooden stretcher frame, the painting is perfect and ready to hang. Alas, we have nothin on the artist, and nothing on identity unless that chalked notation on back is both her and her address - take a look.
A 2nd portrait, of a man we believe is her young husband, is being sold separately - in case you wish to have both, please ask and we can direct you to it, if you're not able to find it with search on the site.
Very good to excellent condition, a most appealing pose and elegant artistry to this one. Superb detail and line. I have her on display in my home right now, enjoying her at every pass. No holes, no tears, no evidence of restoration, just a very well preserved 19th century portrait. The frame, I am certain, is not the original for this painting, but a fairly recent addition. Yet it houses it nicely and shows very well in display. It's the portrait you'll love, and the frame simply gives her containment, compliment and not a detraction. The outer measurement is 29.5" x 24" and it is 1" in depth (frame and stretcher, both). Painting is 26.75" x 21.5"
