Such a beauty! And very old. Artist signed oil painting on stretched canvas, dated 1858. "H de Jolleville", possibly. You can try to make out the signature which we've enlarged in our photos. A forest scene in vignette, and the day's hunt (dinner) captured in a very opulent composition, indeed. Elegant kitchen painting, really - early 19th century oil painting, a sporting scene with the hunt theme typically referred to as "nature morte", a still life with dead game, fowl, the day's dinner. These type of paintings are like little prayers of thanks for the plentiful bounty of the hunt, and yet often show just a couple of small dead birds, humble and yet still a prayer of thanks. The genre extended from those c.1500s ones out of Northern Europe, often Flemish, which are just thrilling to see - feast in the making. This oil painting dates mid-late 1800s, but has not been dated on the painting, itself.

Very good condition for age and The frame it's in seems newer and not original to it, but frames it nicely for display. You can see from the backside of the stretchers, linen canvas, it is very old, and still remains tightly stretched, cross pieces of wood sustaining the tightness well. You can see from the backside that there have been at least 3 small restorations (patched canvas from the back) but it's difficult to see anything on the paintings to correspond so it's been very well accomplished and probably the restorations are also antique from the look of it. The painting, itself, is 21.75" x 16.75" and about 1" in depth.

Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
