A mid-Victorian era import or Grand Tour acquisition gaming chest, Chinoiserie, hand painted gold on papier cache with dragon feet and over 150 gaming chips, a couple of original game counters. The box is superb when you open it - look at all of those stunningly rich covered compartments! There is a bit of damage to the lid, in form of a restored pressure crack. You can see it well in our images. Still, much of the exterior gold enamel work is there, it's still a rich and elegant display box either open or closed. We've tried to show it well, but it's extra large and far more impressive in person than our photos can show. The measurements are noted on the photos, but it's 15" wide, 12" front to back, and 4.25" tall. Just for the artwork, we couldn't pass it by.
Very good condition for age and type. This one would date c.1840-60, we're certain. It's an early and very fine one. There is some damage to the lid, which you can review in our photos. There is also a slight warp to the lid, so it has a very slight wobble. It's never been hinged, but is a lift-off lid, so no damage where hinges would have taken pressure. Such a richly painted work of art, entirely hand decorated. Sure to please. Price commiserate with condition taking the lid into consideration, but it displays with stunning beauty!
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
