You know, I'm in Paris writing this listing, and all around Spring is just budding out. And these old planters for bulbs are at a huge premium, their jonquils and other bulb-flowers just beginning to sprout and bloom through the openings. Yes, that is what this is, though it's missing the original zinc lining in the bottom You can see that the wood is protected on under-top by strappings of zinc, which is there to help protect from the moisture of a jardiniere set within. I saw a similar one 2 days ago and yet not nearly so nice as this hand carved old French one, and they wanted a fortune for it. Of course, it had daffodils just bursting out. But I digress. This is late 1800s to early 1900s, is entirely hand made, hand carved and can double as a footstool or little stand when not in the blooming season. Or certainly any time as a table centerpiece with a bouquet of flowers, similarly set as within a flower frog. LOVE this old beauty, and am so tempted to hang onto it. Sometimes you just hate to see a wonderful rare item sell, you know? ; )

Very good to excellent condition for age and type, but note it would have once had a zinc square pan in base for soil and bulbs to be planted. It is a bulb jardiniere, after all. You can make it work with your own square pan, or even clay pots if you protect the wood very well. The top is hinged, raises up to do your planting, but once the plants poke through the openings, you'll want to just let them grow for you, and use a tube to water. Photos show it well, and it's 11" square and 9.5" tall, so perfect as a tea stand or even a small stool when not in use for your bulb-bloom.

Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
