Absolutely gorgeous antique French hallmarked sterling silver & thick, intaglio etched or engraved crystal 9.5" liquor or liqueur decanter with ornate Louis XVI style decoration! Isn't this one striking! A single decanter, oh to have a few with matching tumblers...scrumptious. We are listing a few sets this week and next, both with a single decanter and each with its own compliment of cups so be sure to watch for them. This one the finest of all, slightly flawed in that it has three small hairline cracks in the neck but as gorgeous as they come! The base, collar and stopper all bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within those marks means they're in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). There are silversmith marks but I can't quite decipher them, likely "HO" or "RO" but since I can't read them, I can't find a reference. Surely dating to the mid to late 1800s though and I'll keep trying to find the silversmith as time permits. A true jewel, stunning!
Very good condition. As noted above, there are three small hairline cracks visible if you look down into the neck. They're completely hidden by the sterling collar otherwise and are secure, no chipping or other damage and no damage or repairs to the silver. See pictures for all measurements.
