We just love these whimsical old half-shell "egg" form caskets and caddies, and stock the finest ones as often as we can locate them. This one is particularly lovely, an interesting base/stand and that bird or eagle motif finial up top. Press down on the finial and it automatically releases the catch and sides open to reveal the 2 perfect little perfume flasks resting in fitted interior. They're both original to this egg. The sets like this would have originally come from boutiques lining the promenade of the old Palais Royal, stocked for the elite Grand Tour tourists of the early to mid-1800s. Sometimes we have baskets, or boxes or watch holders, carriages pulled by small goats or horses - these items are all just so fabulous. Collect several, and be sure you include at least one of these scent caddies.
Very good to excellent for age and type. Rare to find one of these with both scent bottles still inside. The hinged caps both intact and working. The original stoppers are even still in place. No chips or hairlines or cracks anywhere on the bottles or alabaster plinth. The only flaw I can note is a fine tight .5" hairline on one shell half starting at top. You'll have to look for it in our photos - won't show much to the naked eye at all. . As nice as they come. Measurements noted on the photos.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
