Wonderful & rare antique French Grand Tour Palais Royal style pocket watch display stand, a souvenir piece with eglomise depiction of the 1878 Paris Exposition Universelle "Palais du Champ de Mars" with mother of pearl jewelry dish or 'vide pooch' and delightfully in the shape of a gilt ormolu framed chair on pale alabaster plinth! I just love these old pocket watch display pieces, so inventive and the really make wonderful props for the collectors and dealers of fine antique or heirloom timepieces. This one with a reverse painted (eglomise) scene from the 1878 Paris World Expo showing the Champ de Mars Palace. An interesting tidbit about this expo, the head of the Statue of Liberty had just been completed by then and was on display in the garden of the Trocadero Palace. Fun! A lovely piece here, don't miss it!
Very good to excellent condition. Some loss to the eglomise painting around the edges, most visible on the upper right side but in overall superb shape. No damage to the gilt ormolu framework of the chair or mother of pearl half shell. A bit of scuffing to the alabaster base but no chips or cracks. See pictures for measurements.
