A wonderful 19th century hand carved monk in robe, figural mount to the bracket shelf he supports. These old Swiss-German monks are often found on furniture, too, as figural supports to large furniture pieces. You might want to look for some of those salvaged posts in our shop and use them as candle stands atop the bracket shelf shown here. Or at least in the same room. The shelf is 10" tall overall, and the top is a generous 9" wide and 5.5" deep. Large enough to hold guest toiletries or a stack of towels in a guest bathroom - you'll find the perfect way to incorporate this shelf into your home. I'll be listing a 2nd one today, too. They're sold separately but similar enough to hang together flanking your bar or mantel. This one has a wonderful face full of character, and he holds a jar or perhaps a pint. Hooded, he's almost a bit Gothic, isn't he (or is it a she?) This one might be a nun, actually - you decide.
Very good condition for age and type. These are 19th century items, the bracket hardware also old and original. The carved figure has great character, but it's old and slightly shrunken over the years so that you can see a couple of hairline cracks that traverses the board above his head. Figure is free of flaws overall, however, and it displays great.. Doesn't hurt the runnin' any, as they say. He'll be a great accent! Measurements noted on the photos, too.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
