Absolutely delicious & RARE antique French Belle Epoque era 73" wide 4-panel folding privacy or dressing screen with beautifully carved walnut framework and displaying FOUR large figural needlepoint & petitpoint tapestry panels! As late as 1930 but we think this one dates between 1880-1915. Needlepont and petitpoint work in all four panels, very fine work. Each of these panels has been hand embroidered in gross point and petitpoint (wood & Silk) and all one tiny stitch at a time...they would have taken ages to complete. The panels alone are quite valuable and the entire screen, walnut frames and tapestries, are all in great condition! Popular with decorators as wall hangings or even bed headboards, this one is perfectly sized for a California king sized bed, too! Glorious! Each of the needlepoint panels retains a similar overall look and theme but all of the flowers, figures and exotic birds are different on each. Ranging from two gents playing musical instruments, to a romantic stroll in the garden, a pair of matrons, to a friar or monk with armed escort. A rare and beautiful piece of furniture, don't miss it!
Very good to excellent condition! Possibly a tiny nip or two to the carved tops of the walnut frames but the piece is sturdy, thick, solid and heavy and in overall magnificent condition! No tears or damage that I can see to any of the four needlepoints. The silk back panels do have a few flaws, a few tears and a bit of staining in places (see pictures). The piece folds flat to 18 1/4" 3 3/4" for shipping but it will still be bulky and heavy (the screen alone weighs 29.2 lbs). See pictures for all measurements.
