I've been working at renovating my old limestone home with its 20" thick walls, and fabulous old woodwork. There's something about an old stone home that centers you. And that same feeling is represented in this wonderful oil painting by "A. Stockman", a Dutch painter, of a Dutch interior. The huge fireplace, the cooking stove that works into it, the details throughout this glimpse of an empty room are just so charming, don't you agree? The copper shines. The flowers bloom. An Impressionist-influenced painting from this artist we are not able to find more information about at listing time. But he or she has certainly captured that "old home" feel. A welcome open door sheds light and welcomes. One wants to just walk right in. The painting is framed in what we assume is the original frame, though I'd like to have it reframed, I think. A thicker wooden frame, more to the Dutch style with rippled layers, would be perfect. Yet this is the one the artist or first owner put it in, so here we are.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Frame and painting are each in very good condition. The painting does have some crazing to the oil paint, which you can see and evaluate in the photos. No loss of paint, though, and while there is evidence from backside that an old restoration has been made, I can't see the equivalent on the other side at all, so it's done very well. Well stretched, ready to hang. Framed, it is 24" x 20" and 1.5" deep. The stretched canvas is 21.75" x 18".
