Large Lapis lazuli natural stone set into a blue glass basin, and flanked by 2 ovals of fine 19th century micro mosaic in floras, this is a rather unique brooch. It's got a variety of gold used. It's possible it's a re-mounted early pair of micro mosaic earrings or bracelet pieces that has been added to the larger oval of lapis lazuli. Certainly a bespoke, one of a kind jewelry item, it is entirely hand crafted. The small mosaic vases, florals are consistent with very early 1800s works we see in large extravagant parure (sets). I do believe I'm right that they're the oldest parts. The variations in gold are also interesting on this one. I've noted on one photo which parts tested at what karat gold weight. It ranged from 10k to 18k. It's possible the gold backing to the large plaque is a 14k gold plated piece, giving more stability to the stone and glass oval it holds.
Very good to excellent for age and type. Interesting in varied construction, varied gold content, and the lovely and very old mosaics incorporated to flank the evening sky-colored lapis lazuli center stone. Whether a gentleman's large cravat pin, or a lady's bodicer or brooch, it is lovely. A couple of light rim chips on the older mosaic pieces. A very tight hairline on the lighter blue lapis lazuli's glass surround/basin. Still a fine piece! It comes in the antique box as shown, though we are unsure if it is original to the jewelry.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
