You'll recognize this as a mid-1800s Austro-Hungarian art piece, with the enameled gold on sterling silver, hinged in sections, and set with facet-cut garnets and cabochons of Persian turquoise. We've had jewelry frames and a few boxes made in this way, perhaps a few smaller jewelry items over the years. This is large! It is 1.75" wide at top of the triangular form and 2.5" long. A bale up top allows for a chain, or would be fabulous on a strand of garnets or pearls. Each of the little flowers is adorned with white kiln-fired enamel, just like other Austrian/Hungarian items of the period. RARE to find it in wearable "tremblant" style hinged jewelry. Moves with you.
Very good to excellent condition, in this large a photos, I can see I missed a slight rim of grunge of the ages around those turquoise, and will definitely give it a finer clean-up for our buyer. This is a rare old piece. Some loss to the old enamel on the gold flowers. it is 22k gold on sterling silver (vermeil). It comes in the antique red box, but I'm unsure if that is original to it. As I bought it.
