These never cease to fascinate us, and this one all the more so with it's intricately interwoven strands of hair forever locked within the little beveled glass 'locket' of a brooch. Loops and swirls of the lock of a dear one's hair, kept in memorial or commemoration, one. These were made of the hair of deceased loved ones, but this one, in golden metal or low karat gold might well be a lover's knot, or memorial of a promise or of a friendship and not one related to death. I am always hopeful that they represent a found love, a darling child, and not a lost love. But in whichever case, they always signify love. They're French, they were wildly popular through the Victorian period, the same time noted in France as the Napoleon III era. Photos tell all!
