Wonderful & rare 19th century antique Black Forest hand carved 10 3/4" desk top inkstand, a large detailed dog inkwell perched on a hollowed log pen or implement tray! He must be a King Charles Spaniel, wouldn't you say? Long haired little pup with fabulous detail to the flowing ears & facial characteristics. His two front paws are curved over the top of the log as if he's playfully peeking over, mouth open. We've had a few of these old inkwells carved to look like the head & paws but this is surely the largest and most unique with the wide hollowed log! A wonderful decorative accent, perfect for the collector whether it's the canine, inkwell or Black Forest hunt aspects that appeal to you!
Excellent condition! No chips or repairs that I can see, there is just a tiny hole at the crown of the dog's head but that's just due to the inner hollowing and not a break. No inner ink pot but those aren't too difficult to find. See pictures for measurements.
