We used to offer the very most beautiful and special early 1800s French opaline treasures: sugar caskets, opaline egg items. We've gotten away from them owing to the scarcity. But we're happy to have found one of the simpler and perfect 19th century sugar caskets in fine white opaline glass, dore bronze mounted with a working lock, but no key at listing time. We'll go through our stash and see if we can fit one to it, but at listing time it's priced without key. Should we locate one, we'll annotate and price accordingly. These are often thought to be jewelry boxes, but in fact they hail from a time when sugar was such a precious commodity it was reserved only for the wealthy, and locked away so servants wouldn't consume. Precious sugar!

Very good to excellent condition throughout. Not a single flaw to note on this one. No tiny nips or chips, no cracks, the framework is in fine undamaged condition, also. All it lacks is the old original working key. We'll try to locate a replacement from among our stash of old keys. Can't promise we will. The casket's measurements are noted on the photos. Please know that it is white semi-opaque opaline glass. My photographer is out of town, and I decided to click a bit on my own. My photos are FAR inferior. We'll replace photos later on. The box is 5 18" long, 3 1/4" front to back and 4 1/4" tall when closed. Size helps us date these. The very smallest ones are the earliest. This is mid-size.

Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
