Recently acquired an entire collection of fine early to mid-1800s cigar cases and we’ll list each one separately for sale. Look for them all, though. The entire collection is just fabulous! From hand embroidered ones to one favorite of mine with hand carved antler stag on front, to a splendid old shagreen case, to a host of others that would be wonderful gift ideas along with a tin of Davidoff cigars (or other) for your favorite friends who enjoy one now and then. I’ll be brief in describing each one, but they’ve come to us out of Paris and from the estate of a noted (and titled) collector who chose to remain anonymous. Wish we could disclose.
A very rare and fine mid-1800s Cigar case in fine form, leather outer and with a rich supple kid leather interior to hold up to 6 cigars (or your spectacles, a credit card - used as an evening clutch purse which is how I’ve often used these). The carved stag is carved in the antler material. We usually see brooches or jewelry items from this era, and many are on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. I’ve never seen or found another cigar case made like this. Just fabulous! A bit larger at 6" x 3" and sides are baffles so they expand.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. The old leather case seems amazing to me to have survived without damage to that very fragile and perfectly carved running stag. Carved from a slice of the antler from same, it hasn’t a bit of damage or chip or break. Set into a frame that sets it off beautifully, also. The case dates c.1860 from the information attending it from the estate. Measurements are noted on the photos.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
