Elegant antique Victorian to Edwardian era 8 1/4" desk top double inkwell or inkstand in the form of a Georgian style casket with serpentine lid and pen tray, lion & ring side handles, inner covered stamps compartment and two "ice cube" shaped inkwells complete with silver plated lids & collars! We normally don't offer all that many silver plated items but every now and then we do find something we simply can't pass up. A fine example here with a large desk or writing table top casket, domed lid with bead festooned borders, ball feet and those lovely lion & ring handles on the sides. The front curve of the box serves as the pen or quill holder, open the chest shaped lid and the two inkwells & stamps compartment are nestled inside. I just love the wells themselves, too, square with a cut to the exteriors making them look like two large shimmering ice cubes. Marvelous condition, too, with some signed of tarnish in a spot or two, some little wear or loss to the plating on the inkwell lids but the casket with little to no loss or lifting of the silver. A fine desk or writing table top decorative accent!
Very good condition. A slight bend to the front right corner of the lid but it closes completely. No dents or damage other than one of the lions, right side, appears to be pushed in a bit (nose, head bas relief pressed in a bit). Inkwells are free of chips, cracks or other damage, just the bit of wear to the plating as noted. The silversmith marks on the base appear to be "E & Co.", Made in Sheffield England (possibly Elkington but I've not found an exact match). See pictures for measurements.
