Fabulous antique French 2-blade folding pocket knife with shimmering mother of pearl handle, 18k gold on .800 hallmarked French silver "vermeil" & steel blades and in the original tooled leather travel style carrying case, etui or box! I just love this one, would likely keep it for myself but for all of my traveling. Surely on my first trip I'd forget it was in my pocket or purse and gone it would be into whatever bin the TSA security personnel use for contraband. Two folding blades, one steel and the other vermeil or 18k gold on silver. The shape of the tiny Minerve or Minerva hallmark and likely number "2" within means it's in at least .800 silver (80% pure so just under the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The silversmith mark is a solitary "B" and I'll have to do some more searching to put a name and more accurate date to it. Likely c. mid-late 1800s though. Great as a stocking stuffer or Holiday gift, don't you think? As elegant as can be and guaranteed to please.
Very good condition. I see no chips or damage to the mother of pearl, no missing inlays. There is light scuffing to the vermeil blade and a bit of age tarnish marks on the steel blade, tiny dings to the sharped blade edge there also. There is a bit of splitting at the edges of the leather case but it's fully intact, as you can see. Measurements are in the images.
