Wonderful antique French gilt bronze ormolu 7" wide double picture frame with bow & ribbon top, cobalt blue mats and wonderful decorative appeal! A lovely old one from late 1800s we think, this dore bronze picture frame is both unique in its double portrait capacity and as elegant as can be. Nicely preserved, it has that highly coveted cobalt blue inner mat, as well. We only rarely find this type of old French frame, and they normally sell very quickly once we list one. In fact, our last, a larger single oval, sold just last week. This a rare double, a beautiful combination of gilt and cobalt blue and guaranteed to please!
Very good condition for age and type. It is a hanging frame now, but you can use a small easel if you prefer (there is the mounting point on the back of the frame for an easel but the original stand has gone missing over the years and it's now set up for wall mount. The two glass panels are not original but cut replacements. The hanging loop on back is also a more recent addition. All internal tabs that hold the glass & portraits and also the thin brass backs are in place, as well. Finally, there is a small original split in the far left side of the bronze frame, surely original from the casting and there is a crack at the 6 o'clock position on the right side blue mat. The blue mats appear to be a thick casein or precursor to todays plastic. See pictures for all measurements.
