A wonderful decorative box! Here we have an antique Victorian to Edwardian era likely jewelry or sewing box with lovely three dimensional carving in the lid consisting of a seated woman with hand outstretched toward a dog, an “AP” inscribed banner and framed in an oval foliate scroll. The box itself is rather plain, as you can see. Dovetail joints at the corners and in solid wood (no veneers). Simply a keyhole in the front, ring handles on the sides but the lid carving is what I had to have! A fabulous work and the carving is quite deep so the figures almost jump out at you. Great theme, too, with the woman and her dog…I love it!
Good-very good condition. Structurally sound though the top carved panel appears to have some splitting at the rear edge and has been resecured to the box with tacks or nails. The interior is also missing any fittings or lining, raw wood as you can see in the images. The interior measures 12 7/8” x 9” and is 3 1/4” to the lip, 4” deep including the space in the lid. See pictures for measurements.
