c.1780-1840 silk work embroidery Frame 14.25" x 12.25" x 2.5" deep, glass present Wood frame, gilded, and thick wood mat, also gilded.
This one is delightful! A fine silk sampler of a Georgian young lady in the farm yard, her bonnet's ribbons and apron glowing in the wind, and her miser's bag or purse carried there on the old rake she has over her shoulder. The stump work trees and line stitch grass fairly bring the landscape to life, don't they. And the little smile on her silk painted face gives way to the happy thoughts the tapestry evokes. Painted sky, hardly any flaws to this lovely old one. You look it over.
