Isn't this one magnificent! A remarkable antique Victorian era Black Forest hand carved wood cache pot or tobacco & match stand with spectacular detail and two very rare hunting (?) dog figures! Beautifully sculpted from one solid block of wood, this one is 8.5" tall and the base is 8.5" x 6 3/4". Marvelous detail and, for those of us who collect these fine old Black Forest pieces, we know that dogs and pastoral themed figures are of the most rare. This piece showing two in an obviously 'poised' stance as if they've just cornered or treed the prey. Both crouched on rocky outcroppings with vines & foliage here & there. The top of the piece in the shape of a large tree trunk, hollowed and holding the original tin liner. A bit of a toss up as to the original purpose but I've shown it with cigars and match sticks in the lower leaf formed cup. A truly rare and exquisite piece, don't miss it!
Very good-excellent condition! A few small nips to leaf tips and the most notable flaw is the missing tail and hairline crack in the rear leg on the front dog figure. As noted, the original tin liner is intact. A museum quality work!
