One of the prettiest of them all, this turn of the century (c.1890-1910) hand carved Black Forest holy font and crucifix with bronze Christ mounted. The carved birds are just darling, without damage, and flutter above their nest, which is the holy font for blessed water. What could be more charming for winter's Holiday time than bringing in a pair of beautiful birds, after all? Put a tiny greenery wreath around the necks, and it's instantly a Christmas decoration, too. We have a tremendous inventory of fine old Black Forest, from huge early 1800s "Fruits of the Hunt" theme plaques to clocks to charming little bears, so be sure to come and browse the entire collection to make your choices, or ask us to point you to more. Thanks!
Very good to excellent for age and type. This is entirely carved of a single piece of wood - imagine the planning and artistry of the carver! The Christ figure appears to be bronze, is definitely metal. The 2 birds are charming, though one has a wing tip imperfection and the carved leaves are also entirely intact. There are no chips other than tip of one wing (barely noticeable), no cracks, no breaks to be found. A beautiful memento!
