Fabulous antique French 12pc sterling silver 7 7/8" luncheon, dessert or fruit knife set with ornate Classical acanthus pattern handles, sterling silver blades and wonderful condition! Yes, the handles and blades on this set are in hallmarked French sterling silver. A complete service for twelve in what appears to be the original fitted storage or presentation case. The French Minerve or Minerva hallmarks on blades and handles, the tiny number "2" on the blades designates at least .800 silver content (80% pure silver, just under the .925 standard for sterling silver but make for stronger blades). The handles have Minerve hallmarks marked "1" for .950 (95% pure) sterling silver. Silversmith marks for Jules Guetin, Paris c. 1867-1882 (7 rue Geoffroy-L'Angevin, PARIS). A wonderful complete set, guaranteed to please!
Very good condition. A bit of tarnish visible in the pictures, sorry :). As you can see, there is a bit of slight surface scuffing and a tiny dimple or two to the handles but no damage, repairs or restorations. One knife blade has a hairline crack about one inch from the rounded tip, something that could surely be repaired by a silversmith (we have a great silversmith and would be happy to price the repair). The box is complete, fully intact and in fine usable condition. See pictures for measurements.
