Exquisite & very rare 21 piece set of 8 1/8" Gustave Keller hallmarked sterling silver 8 1/8" knives in original cordovan leather box or presentation case! One of the best names for French silver, easily in the top echelon alongside Tiffany & Co. here in the US. Founded in 1857 as a company to make fine quality traveling cases for toiletries, Gustave Keller Freres began to manufacture silver in 1880. I've found a few other references, mostly other single flatware pieces for sale and all priced over $100 EACH PIECE! Missing a few knives (three empty spaces in the box) and there surely would have been an upper tier or tray inside that held forks or a combination of forks & spoons. Truly an important and very rare collection here, elegant styling and intertwined monograms. The inside of the box also has a gilt embossed mark that reads: Gustave Keller, Paris. Prices WAY below what you'd expect so, don't miss this set! Also, be sure to take a peek at the 12 piece boxed sterling silver martini or sorbet goblet set that we have up for sale......superb!
Very good condition! As stated, the box is missing an upper tier that would have held the rest of the set, likely forks & spoons. There are also three knives short of the original 24. Four or so of the knives are slightly more tarnished than the rest and have an older look to them, slightly different maker marks (the flat text G.Keller as opposed to the oval G.Keller, Paris mark on the rest). No damage to the leather. There is a split through the wood base, there surely would have been a velvet or fabric cover over the base of the box also. See pictures for measurements.
