Im sitting here looking at the rainbows of light that are flashing through the small diamonds of this ring, and wondering why our eyes can capture a brilliance that the camera just cannot, the brilliance and warmth that old cut diamonds and stones possess.
This ring is a nice example of European Victorian craftsmanship. The cut reminds me of a bowtie for some reason, with its clean, almost deco lines all leading to a saturated pink-red natural ruby. Although the diamonds are small, they have plenty of sparkle and fire complementing the central stone.
The band and portion holding the central ruby is constructed of a bright 18k yellow gold. The diamonds are help in a silver metal, which is typical for Victorian era jewelry. The band is marked .750 and there is a rectangle with three characters which may be .900 for the silver content. THe ruby stone is oval cut, while the diamonds are either old mine of old european (my antique jeweler friend stated they were old mine but looking close I cannot see the difference so am not stating either way. The stones are fairly round but a few are slightly irregularly shaped)
The ring measures a size 6 1/2.
Condition is excellent, No damage to any prongs and all stones look original. Band has minor age related wear only.
